3 days until the EMM competition

Well it's been awhile since my last post. We've been busy and had a hard time with these horses. Kevin broke his foot 8 weeks into the competition and had 2 very wild horses. My horse came with an injury so his training has been slow. We love all of them though and would love to keep them all. Colton's first trail ride at the beach!

week 3

It seems things are moving slowly, but it actually has only been three weeks!
Colton has been saddled and ridden. He has joined up really good. Kevin's mare is very close to joining up but sometimes she looses her grip on it. Bubba is the last hold out. He is still very scared.

DAY 5

The horses are coming along nicely. The mare (no name yet) did not let Kevin touch her until day 5! She has been watching us with the boys and when Kevin reached out to her she let him touch her and within 5 minutes he was petting her down her neck on both sides to her withers!! Bubba Kevin's gelding is flighty but reallly wants to please and trys real hard to trust Kevin. My gelding Colton lets me pet him all over and is starting to lead.

Here we go again!!!

Kevin and I will be competing in the Extreme Mustang Makeover held in Albany, Or. in June.
We picked our 3 (yes 3 as Kevin is doing two for a chance to win a saddle.) On the 30th of March. He got a 5 year old mare and a 3 hear old gelding. I got a 3 year old gelding. His mare is from Warm Springs HMA which is where our first mustang(Katie) is from. His gelding is from Jackie's butte. He is 14.2hds tall as a 3 year old so he will be big. My gelding is from the Barron valley complex(which includes horses from Sheepshead HMA and Hogs creek HMA) He is about 14hds tall as is Kevin's mare.
So we have 90 days to gentle and train these horses. The beginning is going well. I am petting my gelding all over and Kevin is petting his gelding on the forhead. The mare is a liitle tougher!
I will post updates as often as I can.

"MUSTANGS"

"Mustangs have taught me more about horses and myself than anything else I have ever done...patience, prayer, body language, understanding, not taking things personal, creative thinking, different perspectives...if more people understood the true reward and could grasp the real meaning, no mustang would ever want for a home..." T.I.P. horse

We went to Burns yesterday and picked up 2 wild horses for a client. The white mare is a 6 year old form Cold Springs HMA. The black gelding is a 1 1/2 year old gelding from the same place. Sunrise as we waited to load. Kevin worked the mare first today. She is extremely flighty and snorts a lot. She is very afraid of us and is shaking anytime we come near her. Kevin says she is wonderfully spirited. He likes her a lot and has already started a bond within minutes. He calls her little lady.

Ellie's 5th birthday party!

Our granddaughter Ellie received a horse from us for her birthday. This is the yearling filly we adopted at the youth and yearlings competition.
Ellie named her horse Daisy.

up date on Santana!

Santana is doing great. He had an abcess on his lip and it caused him not to eat good which caused him to colic. Just like Secretariat!! It popped and he is doing great but lost a lot of weight!

Santana

Santana is suffering from colic. It has been going on for two days and he has been tube with oil and is on Banamine. It is a weird sort of colic as he's not throwing himself on the ground or kicking at his stomach. But he does lay down for a minute and then gets back up. Please say a prayer for him.
